Earlier this Tuesday, we reported about Nadigar Sangam claiming that they have not received any communication from the Tamil Film Producers Council about a recent meeting regarding working in accordance with a revenue-sharing model and a proposed strike in May. Recently, the Producers Council held a meeting about a model where actors and everyone else involved in a film shares its loss or profit in a way comparable to the model in Telugu cinema. Before another meeting with producers and distributors regarding OTT release windows, a strike will be observed to propagate the idea about revenue sharing, the Council announced.
The Council revealed that they have invited Nadigar Sangam, among other organisations, for the recent meeting. However, Nadigar Sangam told the media recently that they have not received any such invitation and they do not know about the strike either.
In a new statement, the Tamil Film Producers Council expressed their disappointment for Nadigar Sangam's recent comments to the media. In a long letter, the Council revealed that Nadigar Sangam has not revealed their decision on the revenue-sharing model in the past three years, despite its multiple communication about the model to the organisation.
The Council added, referring to the organisation's claim about their lack of knowledge about the meeting, "It is extremely surprising and disappointing that you claim you were not informed of this."
The statement further said, "Each time our two organizations attempted to initiate discussions, this matter was conveyed verbally by our representatives to the President, Vice Presidents, and Treasurer of your association. However, your statement to the media claiming ignorance of the matter is unacceptable, and we wish to strongly point this out."
The Council also explained the proposed strike, attributing it to a lack of cooperation and response from Nadigar Sangam regarding the model, in spite of the association's awareness of the losses faced by producers. "Therefore, in order to bring a final resolution to this issue, if you come forward for immediate discussions, we are willing to reconsider our general body’s decision to proceed with a token strike. However, if you choose to ignore and refrain from participating in such discussions, we hereby inform you through this letter that the token strike will continue," the Council added.
