The Madras High Court rejected an appeal filed by actor Tamannaah Bhatia, challenging a single judge's dismissal of her plea against unauthorised use of her images. Tamannaah initially filed an appeal against Power Soaps, alleging usage of her photos after her contract has expired.
According to Live Law, in the initial plea filed by the actor stated that Power Soaps had continued to her picture on their products, after the one year agreed upon on period, which ended on October 2009, had passed with the agreement not renewed.
Arguing that the company had used her pictures without her approval, since the one year period had ended, Tamannaah filed a suit seeking damages of Rs 1 crore.
Meanwhile, the company argued that the actor hadn't produced any substantial, incriminating evidence, and wasn't entitled to any compensatory amount on the basis of damages. The single judge dismissed the actor's plea on the basis that the actor had not submitted true documents, hence not proving that the company was responsible for damages, and subsequently refused to accept that the company had exploited her images.
A division bench of the Madras HC refused to dismiss this order passed by the single judge.
On the workfront, Tamannaah will be seen in the V Shantaram biopic, as yesteryear actor Jayashree. She will also be seen in Vvan – Force of the Forrest.
