"The future isn't human anymore," reads the first description of CV Kumar's upcoming film XY whose first look was released on the occasion of Tamil New Year. The upcoming film is a part of the Maayavan cinematic universe - a universe surrounding the 2017 science fiction thriller Maayavan, which was also helmed by the director.
The eerie poster has six of the key cast members, placed inside what looks like a pod with wires connected to their faces for experimentation. The tagline of XY says 'Code of Destruction', hinting at a dystopian sci-fi thriller based on DNA modifications and its possible catastrophic effects on humanity.
The cast of the film includes newcomers Rathika Ravinder and Aniz Prabakar in lead roles. Varshini Venkat of Bigg Boss Tamil 8 fame, Srithar, Varshini, known for her stint in Super Singer Junior 10, Pragadeesh, Suganthi, Alageshwari, Cheran Husain, Sheimour Roosevelt, Brana, and Dheeran are part of the supporting cast. Maayavan starred Sundeep Kishan and Lavanya Tripathi in lead roles, while Jackie Shroff, Daniel Balaji, Mime Gopi, R Amarendran, Bagavathi Perumal, and Jayaprakash played supporting roles.
On the technical crew, XY has Srikant Krishna as composer, cinematography by Hariharan Anandarajah, and editing by Pon Kathiresh. NS Jegadeesan serves as the creative architect. It is backed by Shri Krish Pictures and Sri International Movies.
The film wrapped shooting in November last year and is yet to lock a release date.
