After announcing the 'whistle' as its symbol for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections, actor-politician Vijay's party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has switched its election campaign to top gear, with a song for it. The track, titled 'TVK election campaign song,' taps into the superstar's popularity among the masses and asks people to vote for him using the aforementioned symbol. At one point, the song also alludes to the fact that Vijay or TVK does not ally with other parties to win the election. He sings a line in the song that roughly translates to, "You make fun of the fact that I come alone, but remember, there are eight crore people behind me." Elsewhere, he sings, "Good people, please vote for the whistle."
The 'TVK election campaign song' also touts the actor-politician and his party's secular and progressive values.
The song comes only a few days after Vijay received permission to contest in the elections from two constituencies: Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East. The assembly elections are set to take place later this April. Ahead of the elections, TVK and its chief Vijay have been quite critical of the party DMK. Recently, he described the DMK-led alliance as shards of glass that have been patched up.
On the work front, Vijay still awaits censorship clearance for his final film, Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth. According to the latest reports, the censorship controversy about the film is about to end, and there is the possibility of it hitting theatres in the final week of April. That said, the film's producer, KVN Productions, is yet to confirm the release date.
