The audio and trailer launch of Marutham, directed by debutant V Gajendran and starring Vidharth, was held in Chennai on Sunday. Produced by C Venkatesan under Aruvar Private Limited, the film, which explores the struggles of farmers and the need for agricultural land, is scheduled to release on October 10.
Speaking at the event, producer Venkatesan kept it simple and heartfelt: “The film is coming out on October 10. Please give your support.”
Actor Aruldoss recalled his long association with Gajendran, saying, “He first called me 10 years ago to act in a short film. Now, he has made this film with such vitality, capturing stories from North Tamil Nadu that rarely make it to the screen. Vidharth has delivered a natural performance, and Raghunandan is a great talent. Congratulations to the team for making this film bravely.”
Music director N R Raghunandan, who joined the team after the film’s shoot was complete, said, “When Gajendran sir showed me the film, I was reminded of the emotions I felt while working on Thenmarku Paruva Kaatru. The music has come out well, and I believe this film will create awareness among the people about farmers.”
Actor Rakshana, who plays the female lead, shared, “This is my second film, and I thank Gajendran sir for giving me this opportunity. Acting alongside Vidharth was a pleasant experience. We shot under the scorching sun, but the film has beautifully captured the life of a small village. I also wanted to break the stereotype of playing a mother so early in my career, and this role gave me that chance.”
Vidharth, the lead actor, noted how close the story was to real experiences: “When I first heard the story, I asked Gajendran sir if this really happened, and he said it did. This is happening to farmers across India. It was a pleasure to be part of such a film. The cast and crew, from Aruldoss Anna to Rakshana, the child actors, and Saravanan Subbaiah sir, have all contributed beautifully. The cinematography and art direction have captured the essence of the village, and Raghunandan’s background score is a highlight. This film will stand among the quality works of my career.”
Director Gajendran expressed gratitude for the journey that led him to this point: “I thank KP Balachander sir for giving me the opportunity to study at the Adyar Film Institute and Saravanan Subbaiah sir for my time as an assistant director in Citizen. My producer supported me fully, and my friend Anbazhagan was a great pillar of strength. Cinematographer Arul stood by me during the toughest days of the shoot under the sun. And Raghunandan’s music gave life to the emotions I felt in this story. I am grateful to Vidharth and Rakshana for their performances and to all the artists who believed in this film.”
With Marutham, named after the landscape that represents fertile agricultural land in classical Tamil, Gajendran hopes to deliver a socially conscious yet commercially engaging film. The cast also includes Aruldoss , Maran, Saravanan Subbaiah, Dinamodhu Nagaraj, and Mathew Varghese. Arul Somasundaram has handled the cinematography, Chanduru B has edited the film, and the lyrics are by Neethi.
Marutham is slated for a theatrical release on October 10.
