Idli Kadai pre-release event: Dhanush addresses criticisms about his 'idli story'
From the day when Dhanush spoke at the Idli Kadai audio launch event about his tough childhood and the toil involved in buying idlis, he was criticised on social media with posts stating that the story was a 'promotion strategy' for the film, as he is the son of a film director he would not have been in a hand-to-mouth situation.
Breaking his silence over the criticisms, Dhanush said that he was born in 1983, and his father Kasturiraja became a filmmaker in 1991. It wasn't until 1995 that their family could afford a good lifestyle. "Even after he became a filmmaker in 1991, it was not smooth sailing as he had four children and educating us was the priority over any other needs. So it was only around 1995 that we switched to a good lifestyle."
He added that it was during such pressing years that they went to work on the fields and earn money to have idlis.
Idli Kadai, Dhanush's fourth directorial after Pa Paandi, Raayan, and Nilavukku Enmel Ennadi Kobam, stars his Thiruchitrambalam collaborator Nithya Menen. The stellar ensemble comprises Arun Vijay, Rajkiran, Sathyaraj, Geetha Kailasam, Samuthirakani, Parthiban, and Shalini Pandey.
Dhanush's home banner, Wunderbar Studios, is producing the drama along with Aakash Bhaskaran of Dawn Pictures. Dhanush's frequent collaborator, GV Prakash, who recently worked with him on Nilavukku Enmel Ennadi Kobam, is the music composer for the film. The film's cinematography is managed by Kiran Koushik, with editing by Prasanna GK.
Idli Kadai is releasing in theatres on October 1.
