As the Vijay-Jyothika romantic comedy film Kushi, helmed by SJ Suryah, turned 25 this May, the film is getting a re-release this month.
The makers of the 2000 film announced that it will be screened in Tamil Nadu from September 25. The film is being distributed by Sakthi Film Factory, the company behind the re-release of the actor's blockbuster film Ghilli.
The film, marking SJ Suryah's sophomore, revolves around how fate brings together Shiva (Vijay) and Jenny (Jyothika), who had plans that would have never made their encounter possible. They develop a friendship, which then blooms into a romantic interest, but before they can express it to each other, a heated argument creates a rift. Whether the rift is mollified and they get back together or their separation is once and for all is what the film is about.
Despite being criticised for not having a gripping screenplay, Kushi is still a fan favourite for the performances of the male and female leads, and every song in the album was a chartbuster and continues to hit the right note to this date. The film turned out to be a big hit upon its initial release.
Apart from Vijay and Jyothika, the film stars Vijayakumar, Vivek, Nagendra Prasad, Nizhalgal Ravi, Beena Banerjee, and Janaki Sabesh in pivotal roles.
Produced by AM Rathnam of the Sri Surya Movies, Kushi's technical crew has cinematography by Jeeva, editing by B Lenin and VT Vijayan, and music by Deva.
