Following the commercial successes of the three Kanchana movies, Raghava Lawrence is expanding the franchise with the announcement of the fourth film on Thursday.
In a video address, the actor-director announced the start of production for the fourth film in the horror franchise. With his remuneration from the film, he plans to convert his first home into a school.
In the video, Raghava said that this home was built by squirreling away what he earned as a background dancer, and this was the place that laid the foundation for every positive thing that happened in his life.
The Kanchana franchise, which itself is an offshoot of the filmmaker's Muni film, made inroads in the Tamil horror scene as these movies were a departure from the genre-specific films and introduced several commercial elements, making it palatable to family audiences.
The plotline of the film and the rest of the cast and crew are yet to be revealed. The fourth installment will have the longest gap from its predecessor, as other films released in the interval of four years: Muni (2007), Kanchana (2011), Kanchana 2 (2015), and Kanchana 3 (2019).
Apart from Kanchana 4, Raghava Lawrence, last seen in Jigarthanda Double X (2023), has a big lineup including Adhigaram, Benz, Bullet, Kala Bhairava, and Hunter.
