After heavy speculations, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth recently confirmed their reunion for an upcoming film after over four decades at a recent awards event, much to the excitement of fans and film fraternity.
Talking about their friendship over the years, actor Suhasini Maniratnam, during the same stage, talked about their brotherly affection towards each other. "Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth are like brothers, they check up on each other."
"Sometimes, if he (Kamal) ever gets into an accident while shooting, Rajini sir will call me and say, is Kamal hurting?" If I say yes, he replies, if Kamal says it hurts, it really must be hurting because he never complains. They are very close like that," she stated.
It was during this event that Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth revealed that they are coming together for a new untitled film which will mark their collaboration after 46 years. Kamal said, "This may surprise many in the business circle. But Rajinikanth is my friend, and this collaboration is long overdue. It was we who decided not to collaborate, as we had to share one biscuit, and then we demanded that the audience give us a biscuit each. Now we have come again to share one biscuit. It is for the audience to decide after watching if it is a 'Tharamaana Sambavam'".
The Thug Life actor also underlined that they have no competition between each other. The duo have previously collaborated on Apoorva Raagangal, Anthuleni Katha, Moondru Mudichu, Avargal, Thappu Thalangal, Ninaithale Inikkum and Thillu Mullu.
Though the reports also suggested that their film will be directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, it is yet to be confirmed.
They last starred together in IV Sasi’s 1979 film, Alavuddinum Athbutha Vilakkum. While Kamal Haasan starred as Alavuddin, the protagonist, Rajinikanth played the antagonist, Kamaruddin. The film also starred Jayabharathi and Sripriya in prominent roles.
While Kamal Haasan was last seen in Thug Life, Rajinikanth recently portrayed Deva in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie. Rajinikanth is currently working on Jailer 2. On the other hand, Kamal's KH 237 with stunt coordinators Anbariv is currently in the works.
