To mark filmmaker Vetri Maaran's 50th birthday, a promo video was released for his next film, his first collaboration with Silambarasan TR.
Producer Kalaippuli S Thanu of V Creations released the promotional video that has made it crystal clear that STR will foray into the world of Vada Chennai as the titles of the actor and director were given in the Vada Chennai font. The over 30-second glimpse that teases STR's look has him sport a punk, a printed shirt, and a lungi, atypical of the characters in the 2018 film starring Dhanush in the lead.
Vetri Maaran, in a recent interview, revealed that he will use the script he initially wrote for Vada Chennai, which he had to change to accommodate Dhanush, as he had planned to cast Simbu initially. He added that both STR 49 and Vada Chennai will have common characters, but Dhanush's Anbu will not feature in the new film.
Vada Chennai (2018) is an intense crime drama that features the power tussle between gangs in North Chennai. The film features Guna (Samuthirakani) and Senthil (Kishore) turning against their gang leader, Rajan (Ameer), as he hinders the two henchmen's thirst for power and money. In the turn of events, Guna and Senthil turn against each other, and their struggle pulls in a talented carrom board player, Anbu (Dhanush), inadvertently. Anbu faces the challenge of overcoming the greedy gangsters while also following in the footsteps of Rajan, who aimed to protect the fishermen's hamlet from being usurped by politicians and businessmen. This is how Vada Chennai concludes, setting the stage for the highly anticipated sequel.
STR 49 is expected to include Andrea as Chandra, Samuthirakani, Kishore, Manikandan, and Nelson Dilipkumar, though official confirmation is awaited.
