With Varsha Bharath's debut directorial Bad Girl slated to release soon, the film has been gaining a lot of attention for its story and the themes of the film. Ahead of its release, director Mysskin praised the director for creating an honest and interesting story on the struggles of a young girl being raised amid several rules laid by the society.

Speaking at the press meet held on Monday, he recalled the struggles the film had to face from audiences as well as the censor board for its said that he was happy to see a woman telling stories from her perspective. "I feel very happy because the film industry is male chauvinistic. I told Vetri that she is very bright. You will like this film 50 per cent and not like it for the other half. That is how it should be. When you like a film 100 per cent, that means it does not have truth," he said.

Supporting Varsha in her endeavours, Mysskin stated, She named the film Bad Girl only because the story comes deep from her heart on how the society changed her. She is putting a mirror in front of the society on the rules laid down by them. Her questions are simple."

Varsha Bharath: Films don't have space for flawed women characters

Narrating an incident from his own life, Mysskin underlined the double standards that society lays on men vs women. "When I was 17, I bought three sex books. I sourced them somehow and hid them. I waited for a month for my mom to leave home. I always had the fear that she would catch me. I was an unaware, curious 17-year-old. I was reading, and then my mom knocked on the door. I hid the books and ran away to play cricket. When I came back, she had kept those books on my table. I was shocked. She didn't say anything, but imagine if the same scenario if it happened for a girl. She would have probably hit her with a broom. This begs me to question if sex is only owned by men. You should understand women are above us," he elaborated.

Heaping praise on Varsha for her filmmaking skills, he said Bad Girl has "great moments." "To speak about three phases in the character's life, she had chosen three camera persons. She has handled close ups brilliantly. I have never seen a film with these many close-ups in so many angles beautifully. When you watch the film, don't criticise Varsha. She is a diamond, capable of getting the first Oscar award for a Tamil film. She might also get a National Award for her next film," he added.

Mysskin also expressed his eagerness to watch Vetri Maaran's Vaadivaasal on the big screens. "After 60 years, Mani Ratnam had the opportunity to create Ponniyin Selvan. Likewise, Vetri Maaran, Suriya and Kalaipuli S Thanu had the same to create Vaadivaasal, another classic novel. I am eagerly waiting for the film to be released. It will be the greatest film in Vetri and Suriya's careers," he said.

Bad Girl, backed by director Vetri Maaran under his Grass Roots Film Company, and director Anurag Kashyap, stars Anjali Sivaraman in the lead, along with Shanthi Priya who is making her comeback to Tamil cinema after 35 years. Hridhu Haroon, TeeJay Arunasalam, Saranya Ravichandran, and Sashank Bommireddipalli also play prominent roles in the film.
