Earlier today, Nithya Menen shared some behind-the-scenes stills from Idli Kadai, her recently released film, as it completed almost a year of its production. Some of the pictures show Nithya, clad in her character’s clothing and tenderly touching a calf. She also shared an interesting anecdote. “I went straight from this to the National Award ceremony- with dirt in my fingernails having picked up cow dung with my hands just the previous day for a scene. I found the whole thing very poetic.”
The actor added that she told this to her friends as well. “‘I went and received the Award from the president with cow dung in my fingernails’ I said to my friends. There was something compelling about that for me.”
For the uninitiated, last year, Nithya Menen won the National Award for Best Actress for her performance in Thiruchitrambalam. She received it from President Droupadi Murmu. It was her first National Film Award in as many nominations. At the time, the actor told CE that she felt surprised about receiving the award for a coming-of-age romantic comedy drama such as Thiruchitrambalam. Idli Kadai brought Nithya back together with her Thiruchitrambalam co-star Dhanush.
Also directed and co-produced by Dhanush, the film is now streaming on Netflix.
