Rishab Shetty's Kantara prequel continues its successful run in theatres, with sources close to the project saying that the film's Tamil version has grossed more than 100 crore. Recently, Kantara: Chapter 1 minted more than 650 crore from theatres worldwide. According to the latest data from the industry tracker Sacnilk, the film's net collection in India alone has crossed 500 crore.
The film's massive success has primarily been attributed to the positive reception for it across languages. As per Sacnilk data, Dindigul is the district with the highest occupancy rate for Kantara: Chapter 1, followed by Tiruchirappalli, Chennai, Madurai, and Puducherry. That said, the rate of occupancy is proportionate to the number of shows in each location. For example, the aforesaid source of data reveals that the film has 134 shows in Chennai—the most for it anywhere in Tamil Nadu.
In our Kantara: Chapter 1 movie review, A Sharadhaa wrote that the film "spreads awe across multiple events: a tiger encounter, the Kumbhabhishekam ritual, and the eerie calm before war," while adding, "Even amid myths, the film remains human."
Prashanth Neel and Yash's KGF: Chapter 2 still remains the highest-grossing Kannada film of all time. The Rishab Shetty film is now second on the list, with his own Kantara occupying the third place.
