Recently, a release date was announced for Karthi's 27th film, Vaa Vaathiyaar. The Nalan Kumarasamy directorial, also starring Krithi Shetty, is set to open in theatres on December 5. In a recent interview with Cinema Vikatan, the director revealed key details about the plot of the upcoming film.

He said, "I wanted to make a proper action masala film, like the ones we used to get in the 80s and 90s. The story revolves around an MGR fan who believes his grandson shares a special connection with MGR. As time passes, the boy grows up to become Ramu (Karthi), a fun-loving, easygoing police officer. He forms a close friendship, but certain unexpected events put his grandfather’s life in danger. The film is about how Ramu transforms after that turning point.”
