The film Idli Kadai, starring and directed by Dhanush, has earned more than 25 crore from theatres in India, according to a Sacnilk report. The film reportedly earned 11 crore, 9.75 crore, and 5.50 crore, respectively, in the first three days of its release. Chennai is the place in India with the highest occupancy for the film, also starring Arun Vijay, Nithya Menen, Shalini Pandey, and Sathyaraj. The drop in collections from the second day to the third day is attributable to the performance of the highly-anticipated Kantara: Chapter 1, starring and directed by Rishab Shetty. According to Sacnilk, the Kantara prequel has earned more than 100 crore from theatres in India alone over the first three days, with around 4 crore so far this Saturday. On Friday, the third day of Idli Kadai's release, the latest film in the Kantara franchise earned 46 crore from theatres in India, reports Sacnilk.
In our Idli Kadai movie review, Avinash Ramachandran wrote, "If returning to one’s roots is important, then having the conditions conducive for the said return is even more important. The film misses out on such nuances and hides behind the concept of empathy and oneness that is just… nice."
Idli Kadai reunited Dhanush with his Thiruchitrambalam co-star Nithya Menen. It also marked Shalini's comeback to Tamil cinema after 2019's heist comedy Gorilla.
