Actor Ravi Mohan's upcoming film Bro Code has been granted permission by the Madras High Court to use the title for their upcoming film following a dispute raised by Delhi-based liquor manufacturer Indo Bevs Private Limited. The company had filed a case in the court, claiming ownership of the title and requested Ravi Mohan Studios not to use it for their movie.
The new film, directed by Karthik Yogi of Dikkiloona-fame, also features SJ Suryah, Arjun Ashokan, and Shraddha Srinath in the lead, along with Ravi Mohan, who is bankrolling this film under his Ravi Mohan Studios banner which he launched recently.
Subsequently, Ravi Mohan Studios filed a petition in the Chennai High Court, seeking a direction preventing the liquor company from interfering with the film’s title. The petition argued that the use of Bro Code for the movie does not infringe upon any trademark rights of the liquor company.
Hearing the case, Justice V Lakshminarayanan imposed an interim injunction - following Ravi Mohan Studios' counsel S Karthigaibalan's arguments - restraining the alcholic beverages company from interfering with the film in any way including filming, marketing and release or issue threads to the makers.
Karthigaibalan also stated that the trademark application by the Delhi-based company is still under examination and that no rights have yet been granted in relation to films.
The court granted a three-week interim restraint in the case after Ravi Mohan Studios filed a commercial suit. The judge also instructed the production house’s counsel to ensure that a notice is served to the beverage company within this period.
The company had sent an email asking them to not use the title Bro Code as it was already in usage by them as an energy drink and an alcholic beverage.
Bro Code marks Ravi Mohan's first production venture. The film, set for a release in theatres next year, also stars Sri Gouri Priya, Malavika Manoj, Upendra Limaye and Aishwarya Raj in prominent roles. A promo, which was released recently, garnered significant appreciation from audiences.
Bro Code's technical crew includes composer Harshavardhan Rameshwar of Animal and Arjun Reddy fame, cinematographer Kalaiselvan Sivaji, known for Por Thozhil, and editor Pradeep E Ragav. Costume designer Ruchi Munoth, art director Rajesh A, and stunt choreographer Mahesh Mathew are also a part of the crew.
