Actor Dulquer Salmaan, the star of the latest Selvamani Selvaraj director Kaantha, has busted a long-held misconception about masculinity. A youngster asked Dulquer about his opinion of society's perception that men cannot cry or demonstrate their weakness otherwise to the public. In his response, Dulquer said, "Cry, man. When a film we produced flopped, I cried. It does not make me less of a man." The actor did not mention the name of the flopped film. However, the one Malayalam film that he produced and that did not fare well at the box office is King of Kotha, directed by Abhilash Joshiy. King of Kotha, which Dulquer produced under his Wayfarer Films banner, opened to mostly negative reviews from audiences and critics, and it reportedly failed to gross as much money from theatres as its production cost.

Recently, the actor took responsibility for the failure of the film, which he called a dream project. However, the actor has bounced back at the box office with hits such as Lucky Baskhar, a film that he headlined, and Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, which he produced and starred him in a cameo role. Dulquer Salmaan also said that he and his legendary actor father Mammootty cried when the character Mufasa died in The Lion King.
