After a legal battle, Prabu Solomon's latest film Kumki 2 has finally been released in theatres. The Madras High Court had recently ordered a stay on the film's release following a complaint by financier Chandraprakash Jain who had stated that a loan amount of Rs 2.5 crore had not been repaid by the film's team. However, during a recent hearing, the court has clarified that there is no legal impediment to the release of Kumki 2, noting that although GOD Pictures had earlier informed Gemini in 2018 that it had received payment from the financier and would therefore withhold the negative rights, the communication no longer holds relevance in the present context.

The Court stated that PEN India Pvt. Ltd. is the legitimate producer of Kumki 2, with the censor certificate also standing in its name. Consequently, PEN India is not bound by the 2018 letter issued by Chandraprakash Jain. With this clarification, the Court concluded that there is no obstacle to the film’s release, and posted the related arbitration matter for hearing on December 8, 2025. Celebrating the order, Pen Movies and Thirrupathi brothers shared that the film has successfully crossed all hurdles for its theatrical release. Kumki 2 is currently running in theatres.

Kumki 2 introduces Mathi and Shrita Rao in lead roles. Prabu Solomon is returning to direct the sequel after the critically acclaimed first part. The sequel comes 13 years after the first film was released. The upcoming film also stars Arjun Das, Andrews, Akash, Harish Peradi, and Srinath.

In an earlier interview with CE, Prabu Solomon noted that apart from the title, Kumki 2 is in no way related to the first film he made in 2012. "Kumki 2 will just not be a movie that kids will enjoy. There is something for everyone in the film. A warm and emotional film will touch everyone, children or adults," he said. The film is described as a "soulful story of friendship and trust between a man and his mighty companion".

On the technical side, Prabu Solomon is reuniting with his Sembi collaborator Nivas K Prasanna for Kumki 2's music, with lyrics by Prabu and Mohan Rajan, cinematography by M Sukumar, edits by Buvan, art direction by Vijay Thennarasu.
