Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj, who will be getting a theatrical release for the first time in two years with Rajinikanth's Coolie, said that while fans are expecting him to work on Leo 2, he is excited about making a sequel to his 2021 film Master. Both had actor-politician Vijay play the lead.

In an interview on Sudhir Srinivasan's YouTube channel, the filmmaker said he loved the vibe Vijay's JD character carried in Master and that he has a plan to take it forward, as there are many details about JD that he has left blank in the film. He further said that Vijay knows his idea for Master 2.

Lokesh responded to the criticism Leo received, saying he took note of it but did not feel down or upset with it. He added that he admits there was a dip in the second half in the flashback portion, but that did not spoil the nice things the film offered and ultimately did not affect the film at the box office. But he took such criticisms as an alert to refine his writing on such spaces.

With the actor quitting cinema after Jana Nayagan to pursue politics completely, Lokesh said the possibility of both sequels relies on time and he cannot say much about it.
