
Rajiv Menon’s sophomore directorial, Kandukondain Kandukondain, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Starring Mammootty, Tabu, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ajith Kumar and Abbas in lead roles, the film hit theatres on May 5, 2000. Now, as the film celebrates its silver jubilee, it is all set to be re-released in theatres. The makers are yet to announce a date for the re-release.
Based on Jane Austen's 1811 novel Sense and Sensibility, Kandukondain Kandukondain tells the story of three sisters and their widowed mother who must navigate love, heartbreak, and new beginnings after being forced to leave their family house for a simpler life. The film was dubbed and released in Telugu as Priyuralu Pilichindi.
The ensemble cast of Kandukondain Kandukondain, backed by V Creations, comprises Manivannan, Srividya, Raghuvaran, Nizhalgal Ravi, Shamili, Anita Ratnam, and Unnikrishnan Namboothiri, among others. AR Rahman scored the soundtrack for the film, which featured cinematography by Ravi K Chandran and editing by Suresh Urs.
Shankar Mahadevan won a National Award for Male Playback Singer for crooning the song ‘Enna Solla Pogirai’ from the film. The script of Kandukondain Kandukondain was translated into English and published as a book by Westland Publishers in October 2000.
