Silambarasan's upcoming film starring Kayadu Lohar and Santhanam, has been officially launched with a pooja ceremony. Tentatively titled STR 49, the upcoming film is Ramkumar Balakrishnan's sophomore directorial after 2023's Parking. Sai Abhyankkar is set to compose music for the film.
According to the makers, the film is set against a college backdrop where Silambarasan will play a student. The film is being crafted as a vibrant, commercial entertainer. VTV Ganesh, who has also been a regular in several Silambarasan films, is set to play a prominent role in STR 49.
Apart from Sai Abhyankkar, the technical team also has cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa and art direction by Subentar PL.
Aakash Bhaskaran is producing the film through his banner, Dawn Pictures. He is also behind a few upcoming much-anticipated films like Dhanush’s Idly Kadai and Sivakarthikeyan-Sudha Kongara’s Parasakthi.
Kayadu Lohar played a memorable role in the recent Pradeep Ranganathan entertainer Dragon, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu. Besides STR 49, she is also a part of Atharvaa's Idhayam Murali.
Santhanam has also worked with Silambarasan in multiple films including Kadhal Azhivathillai (2002), Manmadhan (2004), Vallavan (2006), Kaalai (2008), Silambattam (2008), Vaanam (2011), Osthe (2011), Podaa Podi (2012), Vaalu (2015). They last shared screen space in Idhu Namma Aalu, which was released in 2016.
Up next, Silambarasan has several big films lined up including Thug Life with director Mani Ratnam and actor Kamal Haasan, STR 50 with director Desingh Periyasamy, and STR 51 with Ashwath Marimuthu.
