Retro star Suriya shared a new poster for the film, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, and wished everyone "Eid Mubarak" on social media. In the poster, Suriya's character can be seen in all blacks and striking an intense pose, as though he is getting ready for an altercation. Retro also stars Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Karunakaran, Jayaram, Nassar, Prakash Raj, and Sujith Shankar.
Suriya's 44th film, Retro is produced by the actor himself alongside Jyotika through their 2D Entertainment banner, as well as co-produced by Karthik himself and Kaarthekeyan S through their banner Stone Bench Films and Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian of 2D Entertainment. The makers are yet to reveal plot specifics, but they released a teaser portraying Suriya as a man trying to reform himself by putting his criminal past behind.
The film has reportedly been shot in locations such as Andaman, Kerala, Chennai, Varanasi, and Ooty. It has music by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna, editing by Shafique Mohamed Ali, action choreography by Kecha Khamphakdee, and costume design by Praveen Raja. Retro is slated for a May 01 release in theatres.
