There has been speculation about actor Manikandan working with director Desingh Periyasamy on a new project. The rumours also suggest that Desingh Periyasamy would work on Silambarasan TR's 50th film, tentatively titled STR 50, after completing the film with Manikandan. However, Manikandan has revealed exclusively to CE that the rumours about the collaboration are not true. There is also speculation about Manikandan being in talks for a key part in Silambarasan's 49th film, tentatively titled STR 49, but the actor has also denied this exclusively to CE.
Manikandan has recently tasted commercial and critical success with back-to-back hits: Good Night, Lover and Kudumbasthan. The actor's performances in these films have earned critical acclaim and audience appreciation for the variety in the characters. After Kudumbasthan's release, the actor's frequent collaborator Pa Ranjith appreciated the film, calling it "a perfect family entertainer". Manikandan has also served as a screenwriter for multiple films, including his own directorial Narai Ezhuthum Suyasaritham.
On the other hand, Desingh Periyasamy made his directorial debut with 2020's Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal, the Dulquer Salmaan and Ritu Varma-starrer with elements of heist comedy and romance. He is coming back to direction with his sophomore film STR 50, which marks Silambarasan's debut as a producer. STR 50 is all set to have music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa, and editing by Praveen Antony.
