Actor Keerthy Pandian, who is awaiting the release of her upcoming film Akkenam, underlined that she has always been drawn to stories and characters that are responsible—an extension of which was her choosing Akkenam, directed by Uday K in his debut directorial.
Taking to the stage during the audio and trailer launch of the film on Saturday, Keerthy said there are many tragic events happening in the country from wars to accidents and shared that she was feeling helpless about them. "Everyday, I would wonder what I can do or how can I contribute? The answer I have is through art. Whatever I can do with this art form, even if it is small, I will choose only that. I wish to be responsible," she said.
Speaking about the film's themes, the actor, who will be seen acting alongside her father and veteran actor Arun Pandian revealed, "I asked the director why he wrote this story from a female's perspective. He replied that in his life, his mom was the strongest woman and that he could write this only from a woman's perspective."
However, she requested everyone to not categorise Akkenam as a woman-centric film. "This is not a women-centric film nor is it a film only for women. It is a film in which certain things happen to a character. How that character handles that situation and overcomes it is what the film is all about. It can be a woman or a man," she said, revealing that she essays the role of a cab driver in the story.
"I love to drive and I play a cab driver in this film. So, I loved working in this film. If not an actor, I think I would have probably been a racer," she added.
In a previous interview with CE, director Uday said that the 'three dots' correspond to three important characters and the story that unfolds between them. "It is an action-filled revenge thriller drama which will move with a gripping screenplay. The revenge element would not just revolve around a single character. Each character has a motive and how each of their motives affects the other characters in the film and are interlinked with each other forms the basis of the plot. We have used a non-linear screenplay for the story," he added.
Uday K has previously made the short film Yakkai Thiri in 2022 with Dushara Vijayan in the lead which received critical acclaim. Apart from Arun Pandian and Keerthi Pandian, the film also features Adithya Shivpink playing the role of the antagonist. Ramesh Thilak, GM Sundar, Adithya Menon and Seetha play supporting roles.
On the technical team, Akkenam has cinematography by Vignesh Govindarajan, music by Barath Veeraraghavan, lyrics by Chandy, editing by Devathyan and art direction by Raja. Arun Pandian also serves as the producer for the film which is slated for a release in theatres on July 4.
