Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan's latest film Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam has earned just over Rs 20 crore across India in the first two days of its release. Directed by Mani Ratnam, who has reunited with Kamal Haasan after 38 years, the film has been receiving mixed reviews from audience and critics who praised the visuals and cinematography but criticised its storytelling.
According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 15.5 crore on its opening day and Rs 7.15 crore on the second day, bringing its total two-day box office collection to Rs 22.65 crore. The gangster drama witnessed a drop of over 50 per cent in earnings on Day 2.
Our CE review of the film read, "The film is a fascinating exploration of the life of an ageing gangster coming to terms with his frailties, and dealing with the same with sardonic wit and insatiable lust. But then, suddenly, Thug Life wants to become a revenge drama fuelled by age-old reasons for betrayal that makes you wonder… Is this really the Mani Ratnam-Kamal Haasan film we were waiting for?"
The countrywide revenue for the film seems to have also dipped significantly as it continues to face a ban in Karnataka due to Kamal Haasan's controversial remarks on the Kannada language.
The film's extended ensemble cast comprises Silambarasan, Trisha, Joju George, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Nassar, Bagavathi Perumal, Mahesh Manjrekar, Tanikella Bharani, Vadivukkarasi, Chinni Jayanth, Vaiyapuri, Baburaj, Ali Fazal, Rohit Saraf, Arjun Chidambaram, Chetan, and Rajashri Deshpande.
The technical crew of Thug Life features cinematographer Ravi K Chandran, music director AR Rahman, editor Sreekar Prasad and action directors Anbariv.
