Actor Darshan, who made his acting debut with Kanaa, the debut production venture of Sivakarthikeyan Productions, is all set to be seen in House Mates on Friday, which is also presented by Sivakarthikeyan. In a recent exclusive interview with CE, the actor opened up about how Sivakarthikeyan came onboard as the presenter of the film, which also stars Kaali Venkat in the lead role.
Darshan started by explaining his relationship with Sivakarthikeyan. “Siva Anna keeps checking up with me, following up on my current projects. Over the years, he has become the first person I inform when I sign up for a new film. When I first told him about House Mates, he wished me with all his heart for it to do well.”
He then shared that the actor showed more interest in this particular film. “Then, he asked me the one-liner of House Mates and was impressed. He even wondered how it would be executed and made into a film. During the film’s production, he kept consistently enquiring about the shooting process and how the film was coming together.”
Darshan was taken by a sweet surprise when Sivakarthikeyan suddenly asked to watch the film. “One fine day, after the film was completed, Siva Anna asked me if he could watch the film. He then loved the screenplay and decided to present it. He didn’t take up distribution for me or anyone else. It was only because he liked the film.”
Kaali Venkat, who is working with Sivakarthikeyan on Parasakthi, quipped, “When Siva and I were shooting for Parasakthi, he asked me if House Mates was genuinely good, as Darshan was always reserved with his words when talking about the film. When I assured him about the film’s quality, followed by Darshan affirming the same, Sivakarthikeyan decided to present it.”
Darshan further elaborated on the camaraderie he shared with Sivakarthikeyan. “Siva Anna can easily identify whether or not I like a film, just by the look on my face. If I don’t enjoy a film of his, I openly tell him my opinion. I never lie to him, and that’s probably why he trusts my opinion. He’s like a brother to me, and so I don’t have a filter around him. I have always been transparent with him,” he said.
Also starring Aarsha Baiju, Vinodhini, Dheena, and Abdool Lee, House Mates is helmed by Rajavel. The film’s crew consists of MS Sathish as the cinematographer, Nishar Sharef as the editor, and Dinesh handling stunts. SP Sakthivel has served as a creative producer with Kalai Arasu as the co-producer. Playsmith Studios and South Studios are backing the film.
