Former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's eldest son and current CM MK Stalin's half-brother, MK Muthu passed away at his residence in Injambakkam earlier this Saturday. The Tamil Nadu State Government announced the news about the actor-politician's demise. Muthu had been fighting age-related health problems over the last few years. He was 77. Muthu was born to Karunanidhi and Padmavathi in 1948; his mother passed away some days following his birth.
As an actor, Muthu's credits include Pookkari, Samayalkaran, Anaiya Vilakku, and Pillaiyo Pillai. Muthu was among the contemporaries of MG Ramachandran (MGR) and was even regarded as the legendary actor's prospective rival in cinema. However, Muthu's success in cinema did not last long. Besides acting, he sang in Tamil cinema in the 1970s, and he also had a stint in politics.
Muthu's sister, MP Kanimozhi left an event in Madurai immediately for Chennai to honour her brother after she heard the news about his demise. On the other hand, CM Stalin and his son, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi, paid their final respects to Muthu at his house in Chennai.
Muthu's body has been kept at the Gopalapuram-based residence of his late father so that the public can honour him one last time.
