After Tourist Family, Sasikumar is back as a Sri Lankan refugee in India in the latest trailer for the upcoming film Freedom. Going by the trailer, the Sathyasiva directorial follows a conflict between refugees from Sri Lanka and the law enforcement system in Tamil Nadu. The trailer starts with Sudev Nair's police officer asking a beaten-up and bruised Sasikumar why he came to India. From the looks of it, Sasikumar plays a person who is treated as a convict in the film. Later, Lijomol Jose's character tells Sasikumar's character that Sri Lanka became "a cursed place" because Ravana abducted Sita. She asks, "If Ramayana did not take place, would we be treated as refugees?" Soon, there is violence and chaos.
According to reports, Freedom has been made on the basis of a real incident from the 1990s. The film also stars KGF fame Malavika Avinash, Bose Venkat, Ramesh Khanna, Mu Ramasamy, and Boys (2003) fame Manikandan, among others. Sathyasiva is the writer and director of the film, which has music by Ghibran, cinematography by NS Uthayakumar, and editing by Srikanth NB.
Production on the film has been wrapped. Pandiyan Parasuraman is producing the film under his Vijaya Ganapathy's Pictures banner. Freedom is slated for a July 10 release in theatres worldwide in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.
Interestingly, Sasikumar recently appeared in Tourist Family, a feel-good film that advocates for cross-border friendship and camaraderie, which appear to be in stark contrast to the events in Freedom.
