Chaithra J Achar, who is all set to make her Tamil debut with 3BHK, will next be seen in My Lord in Tamil, directed by Raju Murugan. While her recent interviews have been centred around 3BHK, the actor reveals in an exclusive conversation with Cinema Express that My Lord was, in fact, her first tryst with Tamil cinema.
“Interestingly, I had signed 3BHK first, but we began shooting for My Lord earlier,” Chaithra shares. “At that time, I had zero knowledge of Tamil. So My Lord ended up being my first real exposure to the language.”
The experience, she says, was immersive and intense. “Raju sir actually made it a rule on set that everyone had to speak to me in Tamil, no matter what. That really pushed me to pick it up quickly,” she laughs. “It was quite the shift—from being a Bangalore girl to playing a Kovilpatti village girl. The dialect, body language, and even the walking and dressing style—all of it was new to me.”
Despite the linguistic challenge, Chaithra took a brave stab at dubbing for herself. “I did try, but the character speaks in a strong regional dialect, which I’m still not fluent in. So we decided to go with the same dubbing artist who had voiced me in the Tamil version of Sapta Sagaradaache Ello. Her voice really suits the role.” Chaithra, however, has lent her voice for her character in 3BHK, nonetheless.
The film is currently in post-production. “We’ve finished shooting, and dubbing and music are underway,” she says. “I met Raju sir last week; four songs are already done, and Sean Roldan has composed them. I’m really excited to hear the final soundtrack and watch the film. We’re aiming for a release by the end of this year.”
Having learnt Tamil through sheer necessity on the sets of My Lord, Chaithra says that experience came in handy while shooting 3BHK, which followed soon after. “I owe a lot to My Lord. It was my Tamil 101,” she shares.
My Lord also stars Asha Sharath, Guru Somasundaram, Gopi Nainar, and Vasumithra, among others. Jayanthi Ambethkumar is producing the emotional drama under the Olympia Pictures banner, while Ambethkumar is presenting it.
On the technical front, My Lord has cinematography by Nirav Shah, music composed by Sean Roldan, and editing by Sathyaraj Natarajan. Details about the film's plot and release date are awaited.
