The trailer for the upcoming film Kuzhanthaigal Munnetra Kazhagam was released by the makers on Tuesday. The film, starring Senthil and Yogi Babu in lead roles, is directed by the late filmmaker Shankar Dayal and is slated for release in theatres on January 24. The filmmaker recently passed away due to a heart ailment.
The trailer goes on to establish that Avadi in Chennai has become a separate municipal corporation and is facing elections. Senthil and Yogi Babu are in mainstream politics. Yogi Babu and another politician are planning to make their wives contest in the polls. Meanwhile, parallely, we see two high school kids planning to grab the school pupil leader post. While the plot details remain unclear, it seems like these stories would intertwine and narrate a political satire that would also appeal to children.
Apart from Senthil and Yogi Babu, the film also stars Lizzie Antony, Saravanan, Subbu Panchu, Chitra Lakshmanan, and the late Mayilsamy.
Shankar Dayal made his directorial debut with the Karthi-starrer Saguni in 2012. He is making a return to Tamil cinema after many years. Shankar also produced the film with Arunkumar Sammantham under the Meenakshi Amman Movies banner.
In an earlier interview with CE, the filmmaker said film does not take any political stance. "Without propagating political hatred or showing any violence, the film merely tells the audience that there is no malaise in politics. Our society does not ask children to embrace politics from a young age; it often tells them to study to become engineers and doctors, but why not politics? After all, our great leaders like Gandhi and Ambedkar had that fire from such a young age," he explained.
On the technical front, the film has cinematography by J Laxman Kumar (Poda Podi) and editing by Richard Kevin (Vikram Vedha). The band Shankar's Saadhaga Paravaigal will be making their feature film debut by composing the music for the film.
