Actor Nithya Menen has revealed that she does not like her profession as she wanted to lead a normal life and become a pilot. In an interview with Behindwoods channel, the Thiruchitrambalam actor shared that she wanted to silently quit her career in cinema before her National Award win for her role in Dhanush's Thiruchitrambalam.

The actor was speaking to the media house ahead of the release of her upcoming film Kadhalikka Neramillai, starring Jayam Ravi and TJ Bhanu in lead roles. The film, directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi hits theatres on the festive occasion of Pongal on January 14.

Nithya Menen explained, "Cinema is not a profession that I chose because of my liking. I started believing in God only after I entered cinema. My father is agnostic. I grew up to be one. When I chose this profession, I understood that I am guided by something stronger that I cannot control. This is a profession that I don't like. If I get an option, I'd leave."

Underlining why she wanted to lead a normal life, she shared, "It might seem like an ungrateful statement. The profession is far removed from my personality. I wanted to lead a normal life. I wanted to be a pilot because I like to travel. I like to walk to the park and be free. But, if I become an actor, I have to give up everything. Sometimes, I ask myself if all this is worth it."

She further added that her parents were supportive and never interfered in her decisions. On her decision of quitting cinema, she explained her decision saying, "Before I received the National Award, I decided I would complete my projects and silently quit films. I thought nobody would know where I was or what I am doing. But, I received the National Award. That's God's plan of bribing me to stay."

Nithya Menen won her first National Award in 2024 (70th National Film Awards) for her role as Shobana in Dhanush's 2022 entertainer Thiruchitrambalam. Up next, she will once again team up with Dhanush in his fourth directorial Idli Kadai. The ensemble cast of the film also stars Samuthirakani and Rajkiran. She also has Dear Exes, a romantic film directed by Kamini.
