A commonality between seasons one and two of Suzhal is that both have specific geographies and are set in times of significant festivals. While season 1 was set in the mountain village of Sambaloor amidst the Mayana Kollai festival, season 2 is set in the coastal town of Kaalipattanam amidst the Ashtakali festival. The writers and creators of the series, Pushkar and Gayatri, speak about the importance of festivals and their myths as the underlying themes in Suzhal.

Gayatri revealed that the festivals portrayed in the series are not well documented. The director highlights that the team went into documenting the festivals' history primarily through oral traditions, conducting interviews—especially with the elderly—to piece together their significance. Pushkar recounts that while in pre-production for season two, they decided to choose the Ashtakali festival, which is a off-shoot of Dusshera. Pushkar goes on to say that the story of Dusshera's roots lies in the legend of Ashtakali, which refers to eight Kalis. He says that, in turn, this led to season two's narrative being formed on the basis of eight women as the prime suspects of a crime, which sparks the events of this season.

Pushkar and Gayatri produced the series under their Wallwatcher Films banner. The second season is directed by Bramma and Sarjun KM, with an ensemble cast that includes Kathir and Aishwarya Rajesh returning in lead roles, along with Lal, Saravanan, Gouri Kishan (Muthu), Samyuktha Vishwanathan (Naachi), Monisha Blessy (Muppi), Rini (Gaandhari), Shrisha (Veera), Abhirami Bose (Senbagam), Nikhila Sankar (Sandhanam), Kalaivani Bhaskar (Ulagu), and Ashwini Nambiar, along with Manjima Mohan and Kayal Chandran making special appearances.

Suzhal 2 – The Vortex is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on February 28.
