Known for making an impressive directorial debut with Vijay starrer Priyamudan (1998), followed up with films like Iraniyan (1999), Youth (2002), Jithan (2005) and Perumal (2009), director Vincent Selva will serve as the writer in Jithan 2 director Rahul Paramahamsa's film Subramani.
The action thriller that has a story revolves around a Belgian Malinois dog and stars Richard Rishi in the lead role. The makers share that this breed of dog is only for military operations and this is the first time such a dog is being a part of a film. They also added that it took Richard Rishi weeks to develop a bond with the dog.
With the first schedule of Subramani, set in Coimbatore, already completed, the filming will be over with the second and final schedule, which will begin soon.
Sharing his thoughts on working on the film, director Vincent Selva says, “Dogs are the only animal to have walked on this planet as man’s best friend. Be it holy scriptures, mythological or historical works, we have found dogs as the best companions to humans. I was literally fascinated looking into the fact that the earliest relationship between a man and a dog dates back to 15,000 years. Besides, I have always found that the world’s topmost filmmakers and writers, including Akira Kurosawa, Stephen King, Steven Spielberg and many others, have always featured the canines in pivotal roles in their works. For years, I desperately wanted to make a film with this concept, and finally, it came true with Subramani, featuring a rare breed of ‘Belgian Malinois’ in the lead role. Richard Rishi will be playing a major role in this movie, where both the characters together will leave a deep impact on the audience.”
The technical crew of the film, produced by S Soundarya's S Productions banner, has cinematographer Akilesh Kathamuthu, editor Sujirbabu S, art director Saravana Abiraman and stunt choreographer Rambo Vimal.
