The makers of actor Shaam's upcoming action film Asthram unveiled the new release date along with a trailer. The film, directed Aravind Rajagopal, was earlier expected to release on February 21, now it will get a release a week later on February 28.
The trailer video shows a disturbed cop (Shaam) unable to crack the mystery behind the murder, before he springs into action once he gets a lead. Asthram is expected to follow a serial killer on the loose. There is also a forced religious conversion angle to the murder mystery, with a priest character saying, "If God will save only if you switch sides, then he isn't God, but a mere political party leader."
Billed to be a crime-investigation thriller, the film has a story penned by Jegan M S. Nizhalgal Ravi, Aroul D Shankar, and Jeeva Ravi, and a newcomer, Ranjith DSM, rounds out the supporting cast of Asthram.
Aravind Rajagopal, who has a decade of experience making short films, is making his debut with Asthram. As per an earlier released press note, the director said, "During the pandemic, my team and I made a 30-minute pilot film. Recognising the exceptional quality of the story, we made the collective decision to transform it into a full-length feature. The talented story writer, Jagan, has masterfully crafted the narrative. As a result, the film has taken shape as an enthralling crime investigation thriller."
Sundaramoorthy, who is known for his work in Airaa, 8 Thottakkal, and Bommai Nayagi, is the music composer for Asthram. The film will feature cinematography by Kalyan and editing by Boopathy.
Asthram is backed by Dhana Shanmugamani of Best Movies. Five Star Company has acquired the theatrical distribution rights of the upcoming film.
