Actor Soori, last seen in Maaman as a lead, is currently working on Mandaadi, helmed by Mathimaran Pugazhendi. As per the latest reports, the actor has performed all the high-risk stunts in the upcoming film, especially those which were shot at sea.
If reports are to be believed, Soori has personally performed all the high-risk action sequences set in the sea, without the use of body doubles. Sources also claim that he underwent rigorous training for the extensive sailboat racing portions.
The film supposedly boasts impressive action sequences, courtesy of celebrated stunt choreographer Peter Hein, who dedicated nearly 60 days to the project. According to sources, the production is backed by a substantial budget of around Rs 75 crores, underscoring the grand scale of the undertaking.
Actor Mahima Nambiar plays the female lead in Mandaadi, which will also feature actor Sathyaraj in a pivotal role. Sachana Namidass, Ravindra Vijay and popular Kannada actor Achyuth Kumar are also part of the cast. Mathimaaran, who worked on Selfie in 2022, served as an assistant director to Vetri Maaran.
In an earlier interview with Cinema Express, the director said, "Mandaadi will focus on the sport peculiar to the 100-kilometre stretch of the Tamil Nadu coastline. I hail from Cuddalore, and I love the ocean. So it has been my long-time desire to explore the seascape. I was on the lookout for something unexplored, and that was when my friend introduced me to a sailing boat race. Mandaadi is the leader of a fishing expedition team. That person has expertise in studying the ocean currents and the direction of wind and fish. The game is played once a year, mostly during festivals, where six-member teams compete against each other."
The film's technical crew comprises music composer GV Prakash, cinematographer SR Kathir, and editor Pradeep E Ragav. It is produced by Elred Kumar of RS Infotainment. Apart from Tamil, Mandaadi will also be released in Telugu. A release date for the film is yet to be revealed by the makers.
