Writer-director Tamizh, who conceived the story for Suresh Rajakumari’s much-talked-about Tamil film Sirai, has revealed that the intense narrative draws from real people he alone has encountered.

Addressing the audience at a pre-release event, Tamizh, best known for directing the acclaimed Taanakaran, spoke about how deeply personal the film’s origins are to him. Having previously served as a police officer, he said he had escorted prisoners to court hundreds of times during his service. From those experiences emerged the central characters of Sirai. According to him, he is the only person who has actually seen the two individuals whose lives inspired the story.

While writing the script, Tamizh recalled vividly picturing their faces. However, he said that after watching the completed film, those real-life images have been replaced entirely by the performances of the actors. He praised the cast, noting that their portrayals were so authentic that they now define the characters in his mind.

Sirai, which is slated for a Christmas release on December 25, stars Vikram Prabhu in the lead, alongside newcomer L K Akshay Kumar, Anishma and Anantha. Ahead of its theatrical debut, the film has already generated strong buzz, with special screenings for critics and filmmakers earning glowing responses. The reception has reportedly been so encouraging that producer S S Lalit Kumar presented director Suresh Rajakumari with a car even before the film’s release.
