Composer Sam CS recently talked to CE about the appreciation and the criticism that he has been receiving for his lyrics for the 'Kannamma' song in director Kris Thirukumaran's upcoming film Retta Thala, starring Arun Vijay and Siddhi Idnani in the lead roles. In his exclusive conversation with CE, the composer said that he even asked Dhanush, who sang the track, to write its lyrics as well. "As an audience member, I felt that it would have been better if somebody else wrote the lyrics for this song. However, it is OK, as Dhanush sir told me that the lyrics are good. I have even asked him whether he wants to write the lyrics for it. However, he declined the offer, saying, the lyrics I wrote are good."
The composer also said that the fact that Dhanush sang the track is "a big plus" point for it and argued that it "would work very well theatrically". Complimenting the actor's efforts, the composer shared, "If you ask me what I would remember about the film, say, twenty years later, I would say it would be Dhanush's singing."
Sam CS also said that he has taken note of the negative comments for the song's lyrics. "We should respect that criticism," the composer said before explaining that the lyrics have not gone down well with the critics, who probably anticipated more poetry in the song.
Coming back to Retta Thala, the film is slated for a December 25 release in theatres. It marks director Kris Thirukumaran's comeback after 2016's Gethu.
