Sarath Kumar will become one of many actors who will have acted with two generations of actors from the same family. Early in his career, he performed alongside Vijayakanth in Pulan Visaranai (1990) and Captain Prabhakaran (1991). Now he shares screenspace with Vijayakanth's son, Shanmuga Pandiyan, in Ponram's Kombuseevi.

At a pre-release event for Kombuseevi, Sarath Kumar revealed, how Vijayakanth's timely help at a critical juncture in his career helped the actor. "Even though director Ponram is a reason I did this film, I said yes immediately, when I got to know Shanmuga Pandiyan is in this film. The reason was, during a difficult face in my career, a makeup man for Pulan Visaranai, recommended me to Vijayakanth, who was looking out for a villain for the film. When I met Vijayakanth he immediately decided that I was right for the role." He added, "The memorable journey with the Vijayakanth started then."

"After watching Pulan Visaranai, Vijayakanth said to me, 'Sarath you will become the bigger name with this film,'" recalled the actor.

Sarath Kumar spoke about the time he was injured on the neck and was on bedrest for six months, when Captain Prabhakaran was in its final stages of filming. "I was supposed to complete a fight sequence. I was only making a cameo appearance in the film, and the makers could have easily reshot my scenes with a different actor. But Vijayakanth was gracious enough to wait for me to recover.'"

Kombuseevi is set to release theatrically on December 25.
