The other day, we reported about Bison Kaalamaadan filmmaker Mari Selvaraj praising Neeraj Ghaywan's Homebound, which is India's official entry for a Best International Feature Oscar next year. Now, Neeraj has returned the favour with glowing praise for Mari's film, starring Dhruv Vikram in the lead role. Neeraj took to X and wrote that the "the ferocity of filmmaking in Bison Kaalamaadan" blew his mind. "Astutely detailed with rich lived experiences and powerful performances in a sports biopic done right," the Masaan filmmaker added.
Neeraj also praised Dhruv and Pasupathy's performances as the son and father in the film. He cited the scenes in Bison that made quite an impact on him as well. "The father’s phone call asking the son to continue playing—even when the odds are completely against him—personally inspired me. I was so moved I paused and sat in silence soaking the courage it gave me. Felt the same when the father fights the cops to let his son go play kabbadi for India. People we love can carry us through moments we’re not sure we can survive," Neeraj wrote.
The filmmaker gave a shout out to the Bison director, saying, "Mari, I doff my hat to you, brother!" He also commended the production team behind the sports film, based on Arjuna Award winner Manathi Ganesan's life and career. "Bravo Pa Ranjith, Sameer Nair, Deepak Seigal and Aditi Anand for a great production!" the Homebound director wrote. He ended his Bison Kaalamaadan movie review with a strong recommendation for the film, now streaming on Netflix.
