As late actor-politician Vijayakant's 73rd birth anniversary falls on August 25, his 100th film Captain Prabhakaran got re-released in Tamil Nadu on Friday.
The praise the film has garnered upon re-release was reminiscent of the response the film got during its initial release.
Actor Ambika, who attended the premiere along with the film's director RK Selvamani, Mansoor Ali Khan, who played the antagonist in the film, and Vijayakant's son Shanmugapandian, said the film looks fresh because it was not made relying on any avant garde technology. "The shots that require a drone today was captured with a crane. The film is so raw and real, and it looks fresh in a period where films aren't shot in real locations and CG is used excessively. I want Selvamani to make a film just like this for the current generation."
The action film is about an officer hunting down a sandalwood smuggler, extensively shot in forest and mountains.
Selvamani and Shanmuga Pandian earlier had said both of them are ready to work on the sequel to Captain Prabhakaran.
Released on April 14, 1991, Captain Prabhakaran is about an honest IFS officer, Prabhakaran (Vijayakant) is after the notorious smuggler Veerabhadran (Mansoor Ali Khan). Prabhakaran's mission is not just official; he also has some personal scores to settle with Veerabhadran.
