It has been three years since the release of director Mithran Jawahar's film Thiruchitrambalam, starring Dhanush and Nithya Menen in the lead roles. On the occasion, Dhanush took to social media to share a brief note, where he calls it "a film that's very special in many ways to me and my team."
Thiruchitrambalam tells the story of a youngster who has difficulty finding the love of his life and living with his father (Prakash Raj). The film also stars Raashii Khanna, Bharathiraja, Priya Bhavani Shankar, and Munishkanth, among others. At the time of its release, the film received plenty of appreciation from critics and audiences, and it also became commercial successful. Reportedly, the film earned more than 100 crore at the box office worldwide.
Thiruchitrambalam helped Nithya win Best Actress at the 70th National Film Awards, an honour she shared alongside Kutch Express star Manasi Parekh. However, it triggered a row, with a section of the audience regarding Gargi star Sai Pallavi as a more appropriate candidate for the award.
The film also won choreographer Sathish Krishnan an award for the song 'Megham Karukkatha' that features Dhanush, Nithya, and Raashii. The second award also courted controversy, with the jury initially naming choreographer Jani Master as one of the two winners for it before revoking the honour for him, following sexual assault allegations against the choreographer.
At the time, Dhanush called Nithya's achievement "a personal win" for him. The two actors are reuniting Idli Kadai, which is slated for an October 01 release in theatres.
