Anirudh gets candid about his 'emoji ritual': It has become a kind of pressure
Published on:

Tamil cinema fans have recently been conditioned to gauge their expectations by the number of fire emojis that music composer Anirudh assigns to a film.

The music composer has been a part of the whirlwind promotions of the much-anticipated Lokesh Kanagaraj film Coolie, starring Rajinikanth. In one such interview, Anirudh opened up that he expresses his view of a film through emojis, but once it backfired in a film, he stopped. "The pressure kind of built up when people started waiting for my response. So I stopped. That is the reason." But he said Coolie is a fantastic film and that he will send 'fires' on screen in the interview.

Produced by Kalanithi Maran under his Sun Pictures banner and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie boasts a star-studded ensemble consisting of Nagarjuna as Simon, Sathyaraj as Rajasekar, Upendra as Kaleesha, Shruti Haasan as Preethi, and Soubin Shahir as Dayal. Rajinikanth plays Deva in the film. Confirming speculations, it was revealed that Aamir Khan will play Dahaa in Coolie. The film is a reunion of sorts as Rajini teams up with Sathyaraj 38 years after Mr Bharath and Aamir Khan 29 years after Aatank Hi Aatank. Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy and Kaali Venkat appear in supporting roles in Coolie, along with a cameo appearance by Pooja Hegde.

The rest of the technical crew consists of cinematography by Girish Gangadharan, editing by Philomin Raj, and stunts by Anbariv. The film's dialogues are written by Lokesh and Chandhru Anbazhagan, who have also contributed to the additional screenplay.

Coolie is releasing on August 14 in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada.
