Actor Udhaya, who was last seen in Maanadu, has starred alongside Ajmal Ameer and Yogi Babu in Accused, which hit theatres on Friday. In an exclusive conversation with CE, the actor speaks about sharing the screen with two other actors in the Prabhu Srinivas directorial.
Udhaya says that even star films have a multi-cast. “In Rajinikanth sir’s film itself, Aamir Khan is doing a cameo, Pooja Hegde is performing for a song, and it is being speculated that even Kamal Haasan sir’s voice will be featured. When compared to a superstar like him, I am a nobody. I am someone who is still, very much, trying for opportunities in the industry.”
Udhaya says multi-starrers have become a constant in the Tamil film industry today. “Also, a single hero subject has become very rare these days. Audiences are also not preferring that when it comes to up-and-coming actors like us. It is probably working for senior actors and stars like Vijay and Ajith. Only when such scripts are written will cinema flourish. This is already happening in other industries.”
He then shares details about working with Ajmal. “Ajmal and I shared great camaraderie while filming for Accused. We bounced off of each other’s energy while performing, and that really helped us, as well as the story. If I acted by myself, this would not be the case. The audience would also come for either one of the actors in the film, making it reach more people.”
Jhanvika Kalakeri also stars in a key role in Accused. The film revolves around Kanakku, a grounded man who leads a tranquil life with his sister, close friends, and his beloved Malar. He is compelled to follow a perilous road in pursuit of justice after an unexpected catastrophe upends his existence. He encounters Vendhan, an emotionally damaged man caught up in the system who isn't aware of the power struggles dictating his destiny, along the way. They work together to negotiate a convoluted web of mayhem, culminating in a dramatic and memorable finale.
