One film of Ajith Kumar that fans celebrate even after 14 years of its release is Venkat Prabhu’s Mankatha. The film, which was critically acclaimed as well as commercially successful, has developed a cult following over the years. Now, director Venkat Prabhu says, like anybody else, he too hopes for Mankatha 2.

At the recent Studio One Golden Icon Awards, director Venkat Prabhu was asked about a prospective sequel for Mankatha, to which he said, “Ajith sir, Suresh Chandra (Ajith’s manager), and I, we all hope for Mankatha 2, or at least another film with Ajith sir. But nothing is concrete yet.”

Venkat then went on to praise the trust Ajith keeps in up-and-coming filmmakers. “Adhik (Ravichandran) said that Ajith sir reached out to him when he was at a low point in his career. The same thing happened to me. When Ajith placed his trust in me for Mankatha, I had made three other film with my boys, not stars. But it was his trust that gave me the biggest hit of my career.”

Arjun Sarja, Trisha Krishnan, Lakshmi Rai, Anjali, Andrea Jeremiah, Ashwin Kakumanu, Vaibhav Reddy, Premji Amaren, Mahat Raghavendra, Jayaprakash, Aravind Akash and Subbu Panchu round out the extended ensemble cast of Mankatha. The film, which marks Ajith’s 50th, follows his character Vinayak, a corrupt ACP in Mumbai, who joins a gang of four who plan on a heist of cricket betting money.

Meanwhile, Ajith is currently coming fresh off the success of Good Bad Ugly which has predominantly received positive reviews from critics. Venkat, on the other hand, last helmed The Greatest of All Time starring Vijay.
