A day after the Tamil Nadu government issued a press release announcing to rename a road in Chennai after the late legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, his son and singer-producer SP Charan thanked the government.

In a post on his X handle, SP Charan wrote that as a family member of SPB and as representative of the fans of 'Paadum Nila', he is grateful to the Tamil Nadu government, Chief Minister MK Stalin, Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and other ministers for renaming Kamdar Nagar Main Road in Nungambakkam as SP Balasubrahmanyam Road; the singer's residence is located on that road.

In his official statement, the Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote that in honouring the late singer, who has sung over 40,000 songs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam, the Kamdar Nagar Main Road has been renamed as SP Balasubrahmanyam Road on his death anniversary. Stalin, recalling SPB's friendship with late DMK leader and former CM M Karunanidhi, said his father was so fond of the legendary singer.

Recipient of the esteemed Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, SP Balasubrahmanyam breathed his last on September 25, 2020, due to health ailments.
