After the underwhelming box office performance of Lal Salaam earlier this year, Aishwarya Rajinikanth stated that the footage for an important portion of the film was lost during production. This had led to a widespread discussion surrounding the film, which starred Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in the lead and Rajinikanth in an extended cameo.
Recently, Aishwarya revealed that some of the said footage has been found, and with this footage included, the film will release on OTT as an extended cut. She said that this footage will make the end product totally different from the version that was released in theatres. Furthermore, Aishwarya added that AR Rahman, who composed the music for Lal Salaam, did not take an extra remuneration despite scoring music for the extra footage.
It has not yet been revealed on which platform the film will release. although some reports suggest Netflix had bagged the rights. Lal Salaam marks Rajinikanth's first collaboration with Aishwarya and the latter's first collaboration with AR Rahman, who is the film's music composer.
The film also stars Senthil, Jeevitha, Thambi Ramaiah, Ananthika Sanilkumar, Vivek Prasanna, Thangadurai, and KS Ravikumar, among others. With cinematography by Vishnu Rangasamy the film has editing by Pravin Baaskar.
