Director Mari Selvaraj, who has been at the receiving end of humongous praise for his recent film Vaazhai, received another feather on his cap when Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin congratulated him for his efforts in making the film which has a story inspired from his own life.
Following their meeting, the director penned a heartfelt note on his social media handles saying, "From my first film Pariyerum Perumal, Mamannan to Vaazhai, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has watched them and called me to celebrate my work and efforts with great love. I express my heartfelt gratitude and thanks to him." It is to be noted that Mamannan starred actor-politician Stalin's son Udhayanidhi Stalin in the lead role.
The film which was released on August 23, received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Based on a true story, Vaazhai explores the lives of young school-going teenagers Sivanaindhan (Ponvel) and Sekar (Raghul) whose families have been carrying banana stalks for generations. Vaazhai stars Ponvel M, Raghul R, Kalaiyarasan, Nikhila Vimal, J Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, and Janaki. It marks the debut of Mari Selvaraj as a producer; he produced it with his wife, Divya.
On the technical front, Vaazhai has cinematography by Theni Eswar, editing by Suriya Pradhaman, and music by Santhosh Narayanan.
