Ever since its release, Black, starring Jiiva and Priya Bhavani Shankar in the lead role, has been receiving unanimous praise for tackling a sci-fi thriller effectively while delivering the complexities of its original film Coherence.
Actor Karthi recently took to his social media handles to appreciate Jiiva's performance and the director. He wrote, "Congratulations bro Jiiva. Black had enough moments to keep a full house audience screaming every now and then out of thrill and excitement. Kudos to the team for simplifying a high concept and making everyone stay with the characters." He also appreciated the team involved in editing and providing background sound for the film.
Reported to be the official remake of Coherence (2013), Black, directed by KG Balasubramani revolves around a couple who decide to spend the night in a remote and unoccupied gated villa, to blow off steam. However, they soon observe that the occupants in the house across the street are themselves from a timeline just hours away.
Our CE review of the film read, "At its heart, Black makes the best use of the genre. It employs the complex mechanism of its sci-fi concepts to tell a human story about relatable struggles. The execution, however, wraps layers and layers of complexity and sci-fi jargon around a solid core, in a desperate attempt to complicate a simple narrative, which renders it messy."
Black, produced by Potential Studios, boasts a technical crew comprising cinematographer Gokul Benoy, music composer Sam CS, editor Philomin Raj, stunt choreographer Metro Mahesh, lyricists Madhan Karky and Chandru, and choreographer Sherif.
