Writer-director Rathna Kumar took to his X account to review the recently released Rajinikanth film Vettaiyan. Writing a long post, Rathna said, "#Vettaiyan is much needed & most Important film. Really liked the whodunit kind of gripping first half & content driven second half with handfull of Theater moments. This is one interesting character in entire superstar carrier. As always @rajinikanth sir effortlessly nailed it. A Year back when you made me read the script. First thing that came to my mind is how you are going to balance content without commercial compromise. But You did it clinically @tjgnan sir. It was engaging and entertaining from start to finish. I initially thought Fafa was a miscast. Infact i imagined yogi babu while reading . But man he was a blast on screen. After a long time It was refreshing to see a different kind of politically right film with not so regular troops having a Star in the middle. Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel, boasts an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, Kishore, and VJ Rakshan.
Rathna was initially speculated to be one of the writers for the upcoming Rajinikanth film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. He has collaborated with Lokesh on Master (2021), Vikram (2022), and Leo (2023).
