Vettaiyan, starring Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, had an impressive opening weekend. On its first Sunday, it raked in almost Rs 23 crore, securing its spot in the Rs 100 crore club domestically. The film's opening day collection was a whopping Rs 31.7 crore, which wasn't matched in the following days, but it still managed to earn around Rs 25 crore per day, with Rs 24 crore on Day 2 and Rs 26.75 crore on Day 3. As of now, its domestic collections stand at Rs 104.8 crore, according to the trade website, Sacnilk.
Rajinikanth's film Vettaiyan underperformed globally, contrary to his previous blockbusters. Distributors' poor release strategies are being blamed. Despite this, worldwide collections range from Rs 175-212 crore. Notably, Lyca Productions hasn't officially disclosed numbers. However, Vettaiyan debuted at third place in North America, behind The Wild Robot and Joker: Folie à Deux.
Vettaiyan has recorded a decent 57.25% occupancy in Tamil Nadu for its Tamil version, and is performing well in neighboring states, including Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka. The Telugu version of the film is also holding strong, contributing a significant share to the overall collections. However, a slower-than-expected start in the Telugu states has dampened the film's overall momentum. Despite this, Vettaiyan's decent performance across regions indicates a steady box office run.
Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan also stars Rana Daggubati, Dushara Vijayan, Fahadh Faasil, Rithika Singh, Manju Warrier, Abhirami, and Rohini, among others. The film's technical crew comprises music composer Anirudh, cinematographer SR Kathir, and editor Philomin.
